Frequently asked questions

  • Are there any upfront costs?
There are no upfront costs. Pack a box, request a prepaid postage label (US shipments only), and send it in. International consignments can be sent direct to our location. Please contact us for details for international consignments.
  • What brands can I send in?
Please see the "Brands" page for a complete list of brands we currently accept. If you have a brand that is not listed, feel free to send us an email on that particular item. We are always interested in accepting new, vintage, and unusual menswear items not listed on our "Brands" page. In addition, we also accept high-end watches, wallets, cufflinks, bags, etc
  • How much will my item be listed / sell for?
We price items to be market competitive while still bringing top dollar. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a certain price will be paid for any item. There are a number of factors that go into every single sale. Our goal is always to sell your items for a much as possible.
  • Do you accept high-end women's or children's clothing?
We focus 100% of our efforts on designer menswear and accessories and currently do not accept women's or children's clothing.
  • How many items can I send in?
There is no limit to the number of items, but it is best to keep boxes to a maximum of 35 pounds so there are no issues in transit. When taping a box, especially over 20 pounds, "more tape is better". Make sure to use extra tape on critical areas so that the box is securely closed. We suggest using 3 pieces of tape over the center section of the box, in addition to tape on the perpendicular exposed edges.
  • How do I send my items in?
It's as simple as 1, 2, 3. Fill out the form on the Consignment Page, print the prepaid postage label you receive via email, and ship the box. It is always a good idea to place all items inside a clean plastic/trash bag to protect them from any inclement weather en route. You can then place the bag inside your box.
  • How long does it take for my items to be listed?
The process of receiving boxes, creating an inventory of your items, steaming/ironing all items so they look great, photographing them, and listing them on eBay usually takes about two to three weeks. You'll receive a confirmation when your box arrives, as well as when all your items are live on eBay.
  • How long are my items consigned for?
The “Consignment Period” for an item shall begin on the date the Property is acknowledged received by Consignee and shall end 180 days after acknowledgment of receipt.
  • How can I keep track of the items I consigned?
Each consignor will receive a consignor ID to view their current items for sale.
  • Can I send you high-end items even if they are in sub-par condition?
Unfortunately, no. We take pride in selling only high-quality items in excellent condition. Any items with holes, stains, or major wear will be returned or donated. (The cost of returning items will be deducted from the next payment.) Some of the more common issues include moth holes, general staining or spots, high shine from improper dry cleaning on suits and pants, worn sleeve elbows on jackets/shirts, worn collar points and cuff edges on shirts, worn pant cuffs from being stepped on, and staining of the pants lining. Please check your items thoroughly before sending them to us. It will save you both time and money!
  • Am I responsible if an item is returned from an eBay buyer?
Once Tailored Consignment is paid for and ships an item, we take ALL responsibility that the item is delivered. We have a strict 'no return' policy for all consignment items and unless eBay or paypal forces a return we do not accept items returned. If eBay or paypal force a return we will promptly relist the item for sale.
  • How are my items listed?
Items will be listed on eBay Buy It Now or Best Offer ("BINOBO") in 30 day incitements. Typically if an item fails to sell it's price is reduced each selling period until it sells.
  • I changed my mind and have decided I don't want to sell an item I consigned?
No problem. Consignors may request items be returned at any time, and for any reason in writing, during the BINOBO period. Returns prior the end of the consignment perior will be assessed a fee of $10 per item to cover Consignee's costs of storing, cataloging and photographing the item.
  • If my item sells for $xxxx, how much will I receive?"
Tailored Consignment's commission is 30% of the gross selling price per item, excluding tax and shipping, for the first $500 and 15% for any amount over $500 per item. (As an example, if your item sells for $500, our fee is only $150. If your item sells for $1,200, our fee is only $255). What you receive is the item's net selling price plus shipping, taking into account the commission and expenses (eBay & Paypal fees, shipping costs, etc.) in the selling process.
  • How do I get paid?
Upon completion of a sale and payment from the buyer, we will send you a PayPal payment or mail you a check on approximately the 5th business day of each month for all items sold and paid for the prior month.
  • Why should I choose Tailored Consignment vs. donating clothes directly to a thrift store like Goodwill or Salvation Army?
Goodwill and Salvation Army thrift stores often sell Jos A. Bank, Brooks Brothers, and Kiton clothing for the same price. They don’t have the expertise to understand how much a buyer will pay. Tailored Consignment will maximize the amount of money your items sell for so you can actully donate MORE money.
  • I have a question that I don't see answered?
Contact us! Send us an email Info@tailoredconsignment.com with any other questions you may have, or if we can provide you with references or any other information. We always try to respond within 24 hours.
